Welcome to The Westervelt Company! We’re based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and are proud to partner with the National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO) to feature a quick look at the lifecycle of our forests.

Whether you're viewing this display at our Headquarters in Alabama, or in the NAFO offices in Washington, DC, we hope you take a moment to learn more about our Company and our Sustainability commitment.

Planting

It starts small – with a seedling. This loblolly pine seedling is one of millions grown in our nursery in Greene County, Alabama – and it’s shown life size.

Growing

We plant millions of those seedlings on more than 600,000 acres of our lands across the southeastern United States. This forest is found on our property in Pickens County, Alabama.

Harvesting

We deliver premium products that are sourced from both Westervelt forests and responsibly managed forests of private landowners. Our timber management practices include creating streamside-management zones to avoid runoff when harvesting, prompt replanting and regeneration, continual forest management, and wildlife habitat enhancement with dedicated, on-staff wildlife biologists.

Lumber Manufacturing

We produce high-quality southern yellow pine at two lumber mills in Alabama. We have one in Thomasville and one in Moundville, where the lumber background of this piece was produced.

The Westervelt Company maintains an ongoing commitment to sustainable operations, practices, and profits. For more than 140 years, our family-owned company has embraced a long-standing tradition of “wise use” that emphasizes careful stewardship of land, forest and water. We honor that legacy every day.

We continue to implement and expand sustainable practices, beginning with our in-house nursery operation in Greene County, Alabama – where this seedling was grown. We breed and plant millions of seedlings with optimum growth characteristics on order to raise the highest-quality trees.

At our manufacturing facilities we utilize technologically advanced equipment and processes to reduce waste and ensure the best possible use of resources.

Together with countless national and global leaders, The Westervelt Company regards forests as an essential contributor to clean air, clean water and healthy ecosystems. Our active stewardship increases the resiliency of the forest, helps protect resident wildlife and reduces risks and stressors on the forest such as disease, insect infestation and catastrophic wildlife.

Each of our diverse businesses have a common goal: Stewardship of the natural resources for today, tomorrow and future generations. Our commitment to sustainability is a means to that end.
